Available in Dakota and Scott County, MN:
One-on-One Mentoring
When a mom enters our program, she is matched with a volunteer mentor who is committed to walking alongside her for support in her journey while she is in our program. Our mentors are there to encourage, listen and provide helpful advice.
Our mentors help our moms work on their goal plans and budgets as well as “do life” together. Various activities may include going to a park with her children, meeting for coffee, cooking together, etc.
The relationship between a mom and her mentor is a special one. While our mentors and moms may feel like their lives are very different when they start in our program, as time progresses, they usually find they have more in common than they thought and a very special friendship develops.
Educational Meetings
A helpful part of our program are bi-monthly educational meetings. We bring in speakers from the community who talk about a variety of topics which may include budgeting, parenting, self-care, etc.
Not only are the meetings informative and educational, they also give our moms an opportunity to get to know one another. Many times they develop friendships and may get together outside of the meeting times as well.
Goal Setting
Every quarter our moms meet with their mentor and the program manager to create an individualized goal plan specific to her needs. After the goal plan is set, our mentors come alongside to help our moms to accomplish their goals. If needed, we will help our moms get connected to other resources in the community as well.
Community Referrals and Resources
There are times our families may have a need our program isn’t able to provide. When this happens, we help our moms get connected to resources in the community that may be helpful to them. This may include car repair, therapists, childcare, food shelves, financial counseling, etc.
Our moms have access to our food shelf as well as opportunities to receive limited funding during a time of crisis.
